Cycling
The old port of Aurich was filled in in the 1930s. The operation was uneconomical, and the water in the middle of the city was considered dirty. With the construction of the Ems-Jade Canal from Emden to Wilhelmshaven, the second largest city in East Frisia after Emden later got a new port.
The design of Mayor-Müller-Platz with the lettering “OLL HAVEN AUERK” is reminiscent of the old harbor today.
