"The column was erected in front of the Oschatzer Gate in 1729. It is made of Cotta sandstone from the Pirna region and was moved to the market square in 1848 after the gate was demolished and later sold to a stone dealer as part of the new pavement In response to an appeal by the lords of the castle, the column was moved to Schlossplatz, and in 1961 a complete renovation of the heavily weathered pillar was re-erected in the market in front of the town hall in the following year.
