As part of the excursion along the Kolonnenweg (Colonial Trail), the tower was worth a detour (Summer 2021).

The tower was built in 1965/1966 on the 429 m above sea level Büchelberg in the Haßberge Nature Park, close to the inner-German border. The ascent is via metal steps; the viewing platform has thick wooden planks with air vents for looking down.
