High above the Jura cliff of Holnstein sits a Gothic building whose origins date back to the 1490s. About a hundred years later, the upper floor was rebuilt, built entirely in half-timbered construction and provided with two hipped roofs. Since then the building has hardly changed. The building originally belonged to the Holnstein nursing office as a tavern, i.e. a restaurant. It continued to be run as a restaurant for the next few centuries until it fell into disrepair after a change of ownership in 1985. Today, after extensive repairs, the house is called “Felsenschänke” and is home to a meeting and training center. Unfortunately it is no longer a public restaurant, but it is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in history and old walls.
