The tower takes its name from the previous tower, which was built in 1886. Maria Josefa was the daughter of the Saxon Prince Georg. The new tower was built in 1998 and is 30 metres high. When visibility is good, the view extends to the ridges of the Ore Mountains in the south with Fichtelberg, Keilberg and Auersberg and to the north to Leipzig with the Battle of the Nations Monument as a prominent point.
