Haddenhausen Castle, first mentioned in 1033, is one of the oldest manors in the Minden-Lübbecke district. The former medieval moated castle has been in the possession of the von dem Bussche family, which has extensive branches in the region, since 1610. In 1613-1616, they had the manor house rebuilt as a castle in the style of the Weser Renaissance (architect: Eberhard Wilkening). The stately, two-winged building with Utlucht, stair tower and richly decorated façade is in a well-preserved condition today. The gable end with the Bartmann masks is particularly worth seeing. A castle park in the true sense has never existed. Nevertheless, the manor house is idyllically surrounded by old trees, which only allow relatively few views from the outside, e.g. from the Bastau lowland. The estate is privately owned and not open to the public. Guided tours for groups of up to 20 people through the outdoor area are possible by prior arrangement.

The main access road "Schlossweg" to the large gate between the farm buildings is only freely accessible by bicycle or on foot from Lübbecker Strasse (B 65). The pretty 17th-century castle chapel in front of the gate can be viewed from the outside. If you are brave, you can take a few more steps through the open gate and catch a glimpse of the stately farm buildings of the estate. In any case, no one, not even a barking castle dog, stopped me.
