At the end of the 19th century a new railway line was built between Limbach and Wüstenbrand. In this context, a bridge was built in Rabenstein, which led today's Kreisigstraße over the rails. The bridge, which is quite unspectacular in itself, owes its name and its fame solely to a one-time inauguration ceremony: On a so-called "blue Monday", a fair holiday, the master stocking weavers of the area came together. On this traditional day in many small and handicraft businesses, where people only worked at "half strength", a knitting chair was dismantled into its individual parts. Then the pieces were transported individually over the new bridge and the chair was reassembled. The donkey that pulled the cart with the heavy upper frame was the first to enter the bridge. As a result, she was given the name "Menny Bridge" for fun. To the amusement of the numerous spectators, the stocking weavers then did some mischief with the knitting chair until, out of high spirits, it was rendered unusable by a bucket of water and finally smashed into its smallest parts. The name "Donkey Bridge" soon became official. It caused young people in particular to refuse to be the first to enter the bridge - who would want to be the "donkey"?!
