Starting from the Magdeburger Hütte near the Stieglitzecke car park, the Acker ridge can be explored.

Our shelters in the Harz National Park are usually located in places worth seeing and are therefore popular hiking destinations. They serve as a short-term rest and break option and as protection in the event of bad weather. Overnight stays are only permitted in an emergency. In the interest of everyone, whether human or animal, our shelters must be kept clean.

The Magdeburger Hütte is a refuge built by the Harz National Park in the immediate vicinity of the parking lot at the Stieglitzecke on federal highway 242. It stands on the border of the national park at the beginning of the Ackerstraße and the Ackerloipe at around 803 meters above sea level. The current building was rebuilt in 2011 using local wood on the site of an older previous building from the 1960s.

On the one hand, the Magdeburger Hütte offers hikers a good opportunity to take a break. There are plenty of seating options inside and outside. On the other hand, the refuge provides a good vantage point into the Sösetal. From here you can see, among other things, numerous mountain peaks in the southwestern Harz region as well as parts of the Söse reservoir. When the weather conditions are good, a picturesque view is possible far into the southwestern Harz foothills. However, if the weather turns out to be bad, the hut can fulfill its actual purpose and protect the hiker from the rigors of nature.

The key data mentioned are reason enough to choose the hut as a hiking destination. Many hikers who pass this place stop at the Magdeburger Hütte to enjoy the wonderful view. If you take a break in the nearby parking lot, it's worth taking the short walk to the refuge for this reason.
