The 13 km long circular walk through the "Katinger Watt" offers a beautiful hike. Lots of birds, trains and a very untypical forest area are to be discovered. The forest area at Katinger Watt is very untypical for the otherwise less wooded peninsula Eiderstedt. The forest was created only after construction of the Eider barrier from 1868 and is, certainly also due to the sandingen soil, quite light. The many water surfaces and Sielzüge offer unique image / photo opportunities. The inclusion of binoculars on the tour is highly recommended.
Beginning and end of the circular walk are in Katingersiel at the tavern Andresen, in which a stop is worthwhile.

A beautiful nature reserve with many interesting plants and animals. We even saw a kingfisher and a sea eagle.

For the safety of people and the landscape from the severe storm surges of the North Sea, construction of the Eider barrage began in 1967. As a result, the Katinger Watt was created and the mouth of the Eider is now protected from flooding and drained. More than 800 hectares of land could be gained in this way and a special landscape has emerged. The Katinger Watt is now a unique nature reserve through which several paths and roads lead.
In just a few years, a natural area grew up here, in which a rich animal and plant world is at home today. In the NABU Naturzentrum Katinger Watt an exhibition shows the changes in nature. The focus is on the original nature, which is explored and preserved. Many discovery tours into the mudflats for young and old start from the Lina-Hähnle-Haus.
Beautiful Eiderstedt is a resting place for many birds and a habitat for a wide variety of other animals.
