In 1954, Springe built the Göbelbastei with the light bulb symbol on the edge of the Deister.
In 1954 there were three reasons for holding 14-day-long "festival weeks" in Springe: the 700th anniversary of the city's rights, the 500th anniversary of St. Andreas Church and the 100th anniversary of the alleged invention of the electric light bulb by the man born in the Deisterstadt, Heinrich Göbel, who emigrated to New York in 1848. In his honor, the play “Mister Bottle Light” and a “Light Cantata” were performed. One theme of the historical pageant was “From Kienspan to the electric light bulb”.
The highlight of the events was the inauguration of the Göbel Bastion at the foot of the Ebersberg in the evening. After a parade of lights formed by young people arrived at the approximately twelve meter high monument, the light bulb symbol attached to an obelisk was switched on. The inauguration act was followed by the first lighting of the half-timbered house gables in the city center.
