The small building that houses the museum is believed to have been the home of the greatest Cretan painter Domínikos Theotokópoulos "El Greco" (1541-1614), as he mentioned that he was born 25 km northwest of Heraklion and next to a Byzantine church. (Wikipedia writes that there is a 2009 publication that refutes this.)
For me, who was fascinated by El Greco's paintings in Spain, it was very moving to see his (presumably) parental home. El Greco only lived here until his apprenticeship.
The museum has existed since 1998 and contains a dreamlike presentation of real and digital copies of El Greco's paintings in a very small space; Works whose originals hang around the world; from Toledo, the Prado to the Hermitage. Books and newspaper articles can also be seen. It's nice that by designing a room as a painting workshop you get an idea of how you work.
