The extraordinary Busatte-Tempesta trail, reopened in 2025, is an icon of Lake Garda trekking, offering an experience that blends adrenaline with breathtaking panoramas. This route, famous for its 3 imposing metal staircases totaling over 400 steps, makes for a unique adventure suspended sheer above the crystal-clear waters of the lake. The hike provides unforgettable views, combining the bare rock of the Monte Baldo slopes with the deep blue of the Garda. Because of these unique features, the Busatte-Tempesta path has become one of the most sought-after and photographed destinations in the entire Alpine region, a true must-do for nature and hiking lovers.

The Busatte-Tempesta trail is a hiking path that connects Busatte Park, above Torbole, to the locality of Tempesta, winding along the northeastern coast of Lake Garda in Trentino. Its fame comes from the perfect blend of mountain and lake: the track is literally carved into the rock about 120 meters above water level, offering a continuous aerial perspective over the lake basin. From here, the panoramas are unparalleled, sweeping from the plain of the Sarca and Linfano rivers to Riva del Garda, with the opposite shore outlining the profile of Limone and the Brescian mountains. This union of natural elements, where limestone rock plunges vertically into the blue, creates a landscape of wild and spectacular beauty, making every step an emotion and a visual discovery.

From a technical standpoint, the trail is about 4 km long (one way) and takes an average of 1.5-2 hours to complete. Its highlight and distinguishing feature are the three long iron staircases, totaling 408 steps, built to safely navigate the most exposed and vertical rock sections. Although the stairs might seem intimidating, the trail is classified as medium difficulty (E - Escursionistico, or 'Hiker' level) and is perfectly suitable for families with children (aged 7-8 and up) who are used to walking. However, it is not recommended for those who suffer from vertigo and is not accessible with strollers or large dogs. Accessibility is excellent, starting from the Busatte Adventure Park, which features ample free parking, a bar-restaurant, and facilities, making it a complete and functional tourist hub.

    Hiking

The Busatte-Tempesta path on Lake Garda is one of the most famous in Upper Garda. About 5 kilometers (one way) of an easy walk over the lake to pass through nature in front of the views of the lake and the Garda mountains.

Along the way there are three stairways built on the rock for a total of 400 steps that are used to overcome the jumps of Val Calcarole, Corno di Bò and Salt della Cavra.

Embark on the Busatte–Tempesta Panoramic Trail for a rewarding hike along Lake Garda's northeastern coast. This moderate route spans 5.6 miles (9.0 km) and involves an elevation gain of 899 feet (274 metres), typically taking about 2 hours and 42 minutes to complete. You will experience unique sections with metal stairs built directly into the rock face, offering spectacular views of the lake stretching towards Torbole, Limone sul Garda, and Malcesine, all while traversing lush Mediterranean vegetation.

To begin your adventure, you can access the trail from Parco delle Busatte in Torbole sul Garda or from the village of Tempesta. It is crucial to wear sturdy hiking shoes for good grip, especially on the metal stairs and any potentially slippery areas. Remember to carry enough water, as there are few refilling points along the way. This trail is not suitable for buggies or prams due to its narrow sections and stairs, and in winter, be aware that shaded areas might have ice in the mornings.

This trail is particularly notable for its sweeping panoramic views of Lake Garda, which are among the best in the region. The route's design, incorporating metal stairs, allows you to reach observation points that would otherwise be inaccessible, providing a truly unique perspective of the landscape. As you hike, you will pass through a blend of mountain and lake scenery, making it a distinctive experience for anyone exploring the area.
