The patron saint of the Roman Catholic parish church of Walchsee is Saint John the Baptist. A church was first documented here in 1399. The late Gothic church, with its 38-meter-high tower, was fundamentally altered in 1626 and remodeled from 1702 to 1704 according to the plans of master builder Martin Pockh. The church was renovated in the mid-19th century and from 1905 to 1908. The roof structure is home to the largest colony of bats in Tyrol. The greater mouse-eared bat is at home here.

Directly behind the church is a large parking lot (fee applies, as is the case almost everywhere at Walchsee). From here, it's just a few steps to the village center. Alternatively, you can use the parking lot as a starting point for a walk to the "Schwemm" nature reserve, a moorland biotope.

The Church of St. John the Baptist in a letter of indulgence from 1399 as a branch church of Ebbs. In 1891 this vicariate was elevated to an independent parish. The old Gothic church was enlarged in 1702 in the Baroque style. The high altar was created in 1760 by Josef Martin Lengauer, a sculptor in Kitzbühel. The altarpiece, the baptism of Christ and the three paintings on the vault, depicting a cycle from the life of John the Baptist, are by M. Streicher from Salzburg.
