Equipped with two geared shaft turbines, the power plant generates 23 MW and generates around 115 GWh per year. The Kaplan turbines measure 5.9 meters and are among the largest wheels in Switzerland. With the new building built in 2000, various measures were taken to protect the environment, but also to restore and create new natural and landscape values along the Aare. At a length of 8.4 km, shallow water zones, islands and floodplain forest emerged. Instead of the old canal, a 1200 m long fast-flowing water was built for flow-loving water inhabitants. The ecological development is continuously documented in the framework of periodic environmental monitoring and assessed by experts. At the beginning of 2010, the Association for Environmentally Sound Energy (VUE) awarded Kraftwerk Ruppoldingen the certificate naturemade star.
