The water from the spring originally flowed into the Neusselsbrunngraben, which fed the Flachweiher pond in Langwasser Nord with around 2 liters of water per second. When the Münchenerstraße was built in 1935, the ditch was piped and its existence was officially declared over in 1986. The water from the customs house spring now flows into the sewage system on Liegnitzer Straße.

As late as 1963, residents of the nearby customs house supplied themselves with the spring water, which had previously come to light naturally.

At the end of the 1960s, the source was probably cast in in-situ concrete by the forest administration at the time. In 2014, the Nuremberg Forest Service, in cooperation with the Office for Food, Agriculture and Forestry in Fürth, restored the source with local sandstone from the Worzeldorf sandstone quarry.
