Cycling
The lock was a sea lock (Zuiderzee) at the time of its construction (c. 1884-1887), but not after the construction of the Afsluitdijk (1932). The importance for shipping decreased further due to the new, more westerly, Princess Margriet Canal with the Princess Margriet lock (1951). The lock is a national monument and has been owned by the municipality since 1959.
