The Frankfurt Dippemess, Frankfurt's largest and oldest folk festival, is known far beyond the city. It was first mentioned in documents in the 14th century. At that time it was a medieval selling market for housewares of all kinds. Potters from the Westerwald, the Kannenbäckerland and Urberach sold here their products, especially their ceramic bowls and pots, briefly called "Dippe" in Frankfurt, which soon gave the event its name.
Since the 1960s, the Dippemess no longer takes place on the Frankfurt Römerberg, but on the fairground on Ratsweg below the Bornheimer Hangs.
The Dippemess is twice a year - once in April for about three weeks as a spring Dippemess at Easter and once for about a week as autumn Dippemess end of September. At the Dippemess in spring you will find a colorful range of rides, gastronomic businesses, show and games. Traditional rides such as the Ferris wheel, a rollercoaster, a ghost train and many others form the solid basis of Dippemess every year.
The fairground on the Ratsweg is connected to the U-Bahn Frankfurt via the Eissporthalle underground line U7 and to the public transport system via a stop of the Frankfurt tram line 12.
