The "capital" of northern Lake Garda has something to offer everyone.

The lively, sophisticated resort of Riva is surrounded by mighty mountains at the narrow northern tip of Lake Garda.

With approximately 13,000 inhabitants, it is the second-largest town on the lake after Desenzano. It has only been part of Italy since 1919, having long been under Austrian rule before that. This legacy is still palpable, creating a pleasant blend of Italian lightness and Tyrolean down-to-earthness.

In the 19th century, the charming town developed into a sought-after spa resort, a status that has remained unchanged to this day. The mild climate, a vibrant cultural scene, and numerous sights and excursion destinations make Riva attractive year-round for young and old. The imposing mountains attract mountain bikers and climbers in droves; surfers and sailors flock here thanks to the reliable winds; and sun worshippers and water enthusiasts will find the most beautiful and longest beach on the lake here.
