The village of Giano has medieval origins and arose as a defensive structure near the communication routes to then aggregate more population from the countryside. Its history is intertwined with that of Spoleto since, after the siege of Barbarossa, many Spoleto, defeated, took refuge in Giano.
Its current fortune is linked to the territory. Here a very good and well-known oil and wine are produced. The village is well preserved and easily accessible from Bastardo on the plain below.
