For really worthwhile 2 EUR you get access to the whole area of the castle and you can also see more of the ruin. However, the highlight is the castle tower. From the top you can see the city and a large part of the valley. The view is really fantastic and the tower is also walkable at night, albeit sparsely lit.

Once the seat of the Counts of Wertheim, the original Hohenstaufen castle complex from the 12th century belongs to the largest and most beautiful castle ruins in Germany. In 1619 it was partially destroyed by a powder explosion and heavily shot at during the Thirty Years' War. Today, the castle is owned by the city Wertheim and a popular destination. From the keep, one can enjoy the view of the river landscapes of Main and Tauber and is within reach of the spits of the Spessart and the Odenwald.
