In memory of the founder of the Dassel Recreation Home, after whom the Erholungsheimstrasse heading towards Solling is named. Pastor Gerhard Julius Wedekind was pastor in Dassel from 1902 to 1934. The foundation stone for the rest home was laid in 1912, and the main house was built by 1923. Pastor Wedekind collected numerous donations for this. For decades the house was used as a YMCA home (the largest of all YMCA homes), today it is unfortunately less accessible as a psychiatric care center.
