The Japanese Bridge in Szczecin is located in Kasprowicz Park. It is unique in Poland. It was officially opened on November 25, 1898 as Westendseebrücke. The bridge was described in the documentation as an "arched, massive street bridge" funded by Counselor Quistorp. The contractor for the works and probably also the design work was the renowned architectural and construction company Boswau & Knauer from Berlin. The same company was responsible for the construction of the Excelsior Hotel in Berlin (1905–1909) and the Bismarck Tower in Aachen (1907). Originally, there were picturesque gates at both ends of the bridge. They were made up of gazebos erected in a wooden frame structure, connected by high roofs. Until the 1960s, the bridge was preserved in its entirety, including both gates. However, it was not subject to major renovations and its technical condition deteriorated. Due to the risk of failure of the wooden above-ground part, the gate pavilions were dismantled.
