Alpbachtal has always had a special significance in the history of mining. The oldest finds prove the mining tradition already millennia before the birth of Christ. In the northern flank of the Gratlspitz more than 30 entrance entrances were detected. The mountain is criss-crossed with caves and winding passages where once ore, silver and copper were mined. Few hikers today can resist the temptation to pack one of the many colorful stones that are scattered on the ground here.
