The history of Rechlin is closely linked to aviation. In 1916, the aviation testing and training institute was built here. After the end of the First World War, the existing facilities were dismantled. In the mid-1930s, as the Wehrmacht was rearming, the area became the Rechlin test site for the German Air Force, which tested new aircraft, bombs and technical equipment there.

At the end of the Second World War, Soviet troops were stationed on the site of the Rechlin Air Force Test Center and the area was surrounded by a wall. Officially, Rechliners were not allowed to enter this part. After the troops withdrew, part of the area became a forest settlement. The former officers' houses at the testing center became single-family and semi-detached houses. see Wikipedia
When we stopped in Rechlin for a day on our Müritz tour, we were fascinated by how traces of this history can still be found in many places in the town today.

In the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District, directly on the southeastern shore of Lake Müritz, lies the municipality of Rechlin, with approximately 2,000 residents.

A vacation in Rechlin means untouched nature, surrounded by water, forests, and meadows. Pure peace and relaxation, but also with all the opportunities for active pursuits:
Whether cycling, hiking, paddling, or boat trips with your own charter boat -
Rechlin is an ideal starting point for exciting activities.

From here, you have the opportunity, for example, to cruise on Lake Müritz, Germany's largest inland lake, or via the numerous canals towards Mirow by boat or canoe. Flat, sandy beaches and clear water also invite you to swim, sail, surf, or paddleboard - the southern Müritz region is a paradise for all water sports, but also a place for families to relax and enjoy an active vacation.

At the Rechlin Tourist Information Center, located in the Guest and Citizens' House,
you can find a wealth of information about your vacation.
