City garden with Geiger fountain and sundial
The city garden was based on the one hand on the banks of the Rems and on the other hand on the main connecting road that led from the Josefsbach Bridge at the Five Button Tower to the lower Rems Bridge.
There are two important monuments in the city garden.
On the one hand there is the "Geigerbrunnen", which depicts the figure of the violinist from Gmünd (after the ballad of the same name by Justinus Kerner from 1816).
Designed by Wilhelm Widemann in 1906, the Geiger Fountain is an eight-pointed neo-baroque small fountain of monumental claim with echoes of Art Nouveau.
On the other hand, a sundial with a mechanical gear train from 1770, which originally consisted of sandstone and was largely renovated in 1956/58 and 1991 using shell limestone core stone.
