The narrow old town street "In den Grüben" is a pedestrian zone that cyclists can use. It is located in the extension of the town square and offers a wonderful ensemble with many historical - partly extensively renovated - houses. The area of the “Grüben” was already settled by craftsmen in the Middle Ages. They were mentioned in documents as “fovea” (pit) as early as 1225, as “Grueb” in 1333. Most of the houses date from the late Gothic construction period. Since the construction of the Uferstraße in 1969/71 as part of the flood protection measures, many houses have been renovated.
