This Weinberg was re-created for the state horticultural show. An average of 200-300 liters of Pinot Gris have been harvested here since 2006

The Burghausen vineyard is located below the castle at the level of the Wöhrsee entrance. There are 450 vines on an area of around 1,000 m². Burghausen has been continuing the tradition of growing wine on this site for many years. In recent years, the winegrowers (members of the Burghausen Settlers' Association) harvested between 400 and 600 kg of grapes under the leadership of head winegrower Curt Pfeifenthaler, who looks after the vines.

Weather permitting, the grape harvest takes place in September / October. However, depending on the rainfall or frosty nights, the harvest can also be delayed somewhat. To protect the juicy fruit from birds, the hobby winegrowers have stretched a net around the vines.

After the harvest, the grapes are immediately transported to Passau and processed there into Pinot Gris, the Gwax, and a secco, the Burgsecco. The 200 to 400 liters of wine or secco can be tasted in the spring of the following year. However, the wine is not for sale, as winegrowing on the Burgberg is a hobby.

Almost exclusively Burghausen residents can enjoy the Burghausen wines: If there is an anniversary or something similar, the Burghausen mayor presents the wine as a gift. However, every now and then the city offers the wine for tasting at events.

Be sure to go down from the castle. Otherwise it will be really tiring because of the stairs.
