House Hameren at Billerbeck has played a major role in western Münsterland over many centuries. Once it was a fortified castle, which is mentioned in documents in the 13th century in the possession of the Knights of Hamers.

Hiking

The moated castle lies on two rectangular islands. From the middle of the 16th century the property was divided into two castle houses for more than 200 years. The older part, Hameren-Raesfeld Castle, is on the eastern island.

A tower granary from 1593, a baroque farm building and a neo-Gothic castle chapel from 1869 still stand here. The younger part, Hameren-Schildern Castle, impresses with its round tower.

Only eye contact with the old building fabric from the south and west is possible. However, this is worth it.
