The landscape around the Messnerbichl is a nature reserve and a natural monument near the district of Erling in the municipality of Andechs, a natural habitat for plants that have become rare in the meantime. In addition to many other plants such as the lady's slipper or the flour primula, the stemless gentian is also found here. In the moist litter meadows in the south of the nature reserve, the marsh gladiolus, also a botanical rarity, has its second largest occurrence outside the Alps.
