A church has stood on the Hennstedter slope to the Töschenniederung for 800 years. It is dedicated to Saint Secundus. Secundus was a Roman soldier who came to the Christian faith. He was sunk in a tar barrel and died a martyr. St. Secundus in Hennstedt is exactly at the highest point where the storm surge from the North Sea and the Eider reached the country.
