The Lluc sanctuary is, in addition to a religious and spiritual center, a guesthouse where you can rest and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Located among the landscapes of the Tramuntana mountain range, many interesting hiking routes also start from here.

The way to the cross above the monastery Lluc is worthwhile because of the great view of the Tramuntana mountains.

Monastic church restored at the beginning of the 20th century by Antoni Gaudi, since then it has shone in lavish gilding and is reminiscent of Orthodox churches.

The Sanctuary of Lluc is located in the municipality of Escorca, it is a place of pilgrimage located in the Serra de Tramuntana. Its name comes from "Lucus" which means "sacred forest".
Its origin goes back to the 13th century when a shepherd and a monk found the image of Our Lady of Lluc in the middle of some rocks, dark and small, it was moved to the old parish of Sant Pere, but it returned by itself in the place where she had been found, a fact that was repeated several times until a chapel was built in the place where she had been found. From that first chapel, dated 1268, the current monastery was built and completed in 1691.
In the 16th, the school of "blauets" who sing to the Virgin daily was canonically established, although their presence dates back to the 13th century. The long porch appears to be from the 16th century, where stands the only surviving cross of the seven Gojos erected in 1393, between the towns of Caimari and Lluc.
Today, the sanctuary has an inn, surrounded by bars, restaurants, a recreational area surrounded by oak groves and Ca s’Amitger, an interpretation center for the Serra de Tramuntana.

The botanical garden is very interesting. You can eat great food at the entrance in front of the monastery. There are also a lot of locals. Tip Paella.

If you stay in Luc, you can use the early morning hours to see the monastery grounds. Avoid weekends.

A nice place to spend a day. On the GR221 was the cleanest and quietest hostel, the monastery is not a hotel. Definitely worth a dinner, Paella is also vegetarian, is very generous and tastes really good.
The pilgrimage church is a highlight, but also the wonderful water that flows behind the parking lot from the source "sa Font Cuberta" tastes wonderful. Locals bring water here.
At the sports ground east of the monastery is the entrance to a beautiful area with peculiar rock formations and beautiful nature. At the end of the path is a good barbecue.

In the middle of the Tramuntana mountains is this tranquil monastery of Lluc, where you can even stay overnight, provided you have booked a room in advance.
Lluc Monastery is an important place of pilgrimage, attracting pilgrims from all over the world to see the famous Madonna inside a small chapel of the monastery church. The monastery also has an interesting museum. You can start numerous hikes from here, e.g. this komoot.de/tour/163156627/embed? start. My favorite is the Sunday tour around the Puig Roig massif

From here, the hike to the Puig des Massanella is recommended. The climb begins behind the monastery and leads up a long staircase. From here you have a great view of the monastery from the top. To be there before 6 o'clock, you get a parking space as well as the possibility to pay no parking ticket.

The Santuario de Lluc is a significant spiritual site on the beautiful island of Mallorca, deeply rooted in the region's history and culture. The monastery is picturesquely located in the middle of the Serra de Tramuntana, an impressive mountain range recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

The Santuario de Lluc, also known as the Monastery of Lluc, has a long and fascinating history. Founded in the 13th century, it has been a significant pilgrimage site for believers and visitors alike ever since. The monastery was originally dedicated to the Virgin Mary and is home to a famous statue of the Black Madonna known as La Moreneta.

The area surrounding the monastery is one of breathtaking beauty. The majestic mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana provide a striking backdrop to the monastery, which is surrounded by lush forests and picturesque landscapes. The location of the Santuario de Lluc makes it an ideal retreat for those seeking peace and spiritual contemplation.

The interior of the monastery is just as impressive as the exterior. Visitors can tour the impressive church, which has been renovated several times over the centuries but still retains its historic and spiritual atmosphere. The Black Madonna is the center of many pilgrimages, and believers believe in her special protective powers.

The Santuario de Lluc is not only a religious center, but also a cultural meeting place. The monastery houses a museum that presents the history of the region, as well as religious artifacts and works of art. Pilgrims and visitors can experience the rich culture of Mallorca through exhibitions and events at the monastery.

The atmosphere of the Santuario de Lluc exudes peace and serenity, and many visitors appreciate the opportunity to pause in this spiritual oasis. The surrounding nature invites hikes and walks, combining a visit to the Santuario de Lluc into a holistic experience of faith, culture and nature.

Behind the monastery winds a Way of the Cross on the Calvary Pujol dels Misteris. The climb is worthwhile because of the view of the monastery and the valley.

The Luc monastery is a great start and finish point for hikes. A bus connection provides for an or. Departure. Inform in advance about the times. Inside there is a lot to marvel at including the black Madonna.

We have to visit the monastery every time we visit Mallorca, for several reasons. The monastery choir sings in the church at noon, great, that gets under your skin. Many long-distance hiking trails cross here at the monastery. Visiting the facility is always nice.

Absolute recommendation. Parking including inspection/inspection costs 8 euros per car. Museum costs an additional 8 euros per person. But you can save yourself (in my opinion only for absolute detail freaks). Definitely take the stairs to the cross with you. Great valley view.
