Numerous up to 20 m high cliffs, such as the Kaiser cliffs to the east and the Rottstein cliffs north of the Unicorn Cave, clearly show the overground nature and composition of the rock. The greywackes have, starting from the Permokarbonischen surface, reddened up to 50 m deep as a result of the then subtropical weathering.
