The "Obergurgler Zirbenwald" (1950m - 2100 m) is a closed approx. 20 ha large pine tree collection with some well over 300 years old pine trees. This old age of the Swiss Stone Pine is a very rare occurrence. Therefore this "diamond" has been listed as a natural monument since 1963 in the rich jewelery box of the Obergurgler Landschaftsraum.
A forest fire in the 1880s would have almost destroyed this gem. Only then old pine trees survived, which today build up a two-stage forest in addition to the fresh young growth. On sunny patches in between, in gaps below, in and on old and young trees but blooms, proliferates, crawls and buzzing an amazing variety of mysterious Bergwesen.Der Obergurgler Zirbenwald is part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - Gurgler comb. Today leads a 2.1 km long adventure trail through the pine forest.
