The barns are grain barns (grain barns), so they were only used for the storage and drying of the grain shells from the field terraces above the meadowland. In contrast to the stores, they only have one door opening, which is usually located in the middle. Immediately behind it, the threshing floor extends along the entire length of the building. Each owner had his compartment on the right or left side of the store, in which he stored the sheaves that had been brought in. When they were dry, they were threshed on the threshing floor. The grain thus obtained was then carried down the valley and stored in the stores or directly ground and baked into bread.

They are called "alpine deserts" and "field deserts". Alpine farming and agriculture were practiced here in earlier centuries. At Herbrigg the fields rose up to 2,000 m. They became "deserts" because they have not been used for a long time. A particularly rich alpine flora can be observed today in desert areas. The buildings on Herbrigg have the typical Walser construction: larch wood, on stilts and mouse plates.
