The five-fingered linden tree is a tree in the Riesewohld that is around 250 years old and has five trunks, which have grown together in the lower part to resemble a hand.

250 years ago, a very beautiful girl made eyes at the young men in the village and did not come home one evening. Her father, brothers and servants searched for her and found her lying dead in the moss. A hiker came along the forest path and was frightened when he saw the dead girl. So he ran away and was mistaken for the murderer and caught.

The hiker said that he was innocent. The father demanded that the hiker swear it with God as a witness, but in his fear, God used his left hand instead of his right. Now the father was sure that the hiker was the murderer. He was hanged and his body buried in the forest.

Before his death, the hiker raised his hand and said that it would grow out of the grave as a sign of his innocence. Years later, the real murderer confessed to his crime, which he had committed because the girl had rejected him. The five-fingered linden tree now grows where the hiker was buried.

Quiet, sometimes impassable hiking trails even with ascents and descents, the Dithmarscher Schweiz😁

The linden tree no longer exists. What a pity
