The Röderturm with its fortifications is very beautiful and impressive. The tower can be climbed and offers a great view of the city and the surrounding area.

Very impressive tower gate in the city fortifications of Rothenburg ob de Tauber.
      Well worth seeing!
The Röderturm was built around 1390. In the tower room, visitors have a fantastic view of the city. For a long time, it was an important reporting post for the city. The associated bastion was built in the 16th century to strengthen it and has been expanded and rebuilt many times.
There are two accessible towers in the city: the town hall tower and the Röderturm.

The Rödertor was the eastern boundary of the city. The road out of the city continued to the Schießwasen on the Brühl and, from the middle of the 16th century, to the city's new cemetery. In front of the gate tower there is a fishing yard, two stone bridges that now replace the former drawbridges and two gatekeeper's houses that were copied from those at the castle gate. The Rödertor got its name from the former small hamlet of Röder, which was just outside in this direction.
