It is the highest point of the Table Mountain plateau, at 1,086 meters above sea level. This stone mound is named after Thomas Maclear, a South African astronomer who set out to recalculate the dimensions and shape of the Earth. He installed this triangulation station which today bears his name.

Hiking

Highest point on the table mountain plateau. Table Mountain is said to be 1,086 m high at this point. From the upper cableway station it takes about an hour. The way is largely flat and with the right shoes and matching clothes for everyone to deal with. At one point you have to climb down a short distance. Chains are appropriate to simplify this. Great view over Cape Town and Table Mountain.
