The Saarhölzbach valley is a wonderful area for your hikes. The landscape is lush green, you will always come across beautiful rest areas and can switch off completely and enjoy nature. On the way you will always see weathered boundary stones that once marked the border between the Saar region and Germany.

On a 2-kilometer route there is an accurate row of historical boundary stones that mark the course of the border between Saarland and Germany between 1920 and 1935.
The further course is carved on the top, so you can always see where you should find the next landmark.
The corresponding country is engraved with D and S on the sides.

Actually it should be called "Saar area".
The course of the border is a bit strange because, unlike Saarhölzbach, Britten stayed with Prussia (D), and Saarhölzbach, a little further north, was added to the Saar area (S).
In parallel to the boundary stones, stones with a "W" are often found. These refer to an old water pipe that is laid in the valley.

The information boards on the old border between Saarland and Prussia (Treaty of Versailles, 1919) contain a small mistake: The "Saarland" did not exist at the time. Correctly it should be called "Saar area" (French: "Territoire du Bassin de la Sarre").

    Pleasant path along the Saarhölzbach.
