    The Orchheimer Tor is one of the four remaining city gates and is located in the south wall. It was restored and we partly used as living space and unfortunately not to be visited from the inside. Further information at: unser-quartier.de/ev-bm/lexikon/orchheimer-tor

      Very nice gate of the city fortifications of Bad Münstereifel.
      The city fortifications of Bad Münstereifel were built by the Counts of Jülich from the end of the 13th century and surrounds the historic city center. It adjoins Münstereifel Castle, which was built at the same time as the city fortifications, and measures around 1.6 kilometers in length. The city fortifications have been restored since 1956, with parts of the fortifications also being reconstructed.
      The city fortifications were laid out with four city gates in an irregular, pentagonal shape and thirteen rectangular towers, which today, however, no longer reach the height of the wall. The wall ring as well as the towers are made of quarry stone with sandstone frames. The moat has been preserved on the eastern and western sides.
      Of the four city gates, the Werther Tor is in the north, the Orchheimer Tor in the south, the Johannistor in the east and the Heisterbacher Tor in the southwest. All four gates have an ogival passage and, with the exception of the Werther Gate, were built in the first half of the 14th century. The Werther Tor is a tall, narrow tower with five floors. It was built in 1416 instead of a damaged building and is surrounded by two sturdy flank towers on the side facing away from the city. The Orchheimer Tor is now only three-storey, as the upper storeys were removed in the 18th century and a hipped roof was added to the top storey. The Johannistor also has three floors. On the side of the moat there is a pit hole and a toilet hole. The slits on the city side testify to the wooden construction of a master room that was previously attached there. Two floors of the Heisterbacher Tor have been preserved and it was previously also provided with an over room.

        In the late Middle Ages, this gate tower was still known as "Ouchemer porzen", and has been remodeled several times. The Gothic archway on the city side is one of the few architectural remains from the time it was built. The archway on the field side dates from the Baroque period;
        The Orchheim Gate was an important access to the "valley fortress" from the Jülich area;
        The upper gate tower area is now used as a residence.
