You can take the Almerlebnisbus (Alm Experience Bus) comfortably to the Hirschbichl Pass and then return on foot through the Klausenbach Valley; a very beautiful trail, not particularly difficult, but with great views.

The crossing at the Hirschbichl Pass, which incidentally is not exactly located at the inn, has been known since the 13th century. Back then, it was one of the many mule tracks that crisscrossed the Alps. The historic salt trade route from Berchtesgaden to the Austrian Pinzgau region led over the Hirschbichl Pass. Over the course of history, the pass was expanded and fortified. The first license to serve muleteers and travelers was granted as early as 1738. In 1805, the guardhouse was converted into an inn, which still stands today. The road for the hiking bus ends at the border at the Hirschbichl Inn.

Walking on the German-Austrian border, that was 2006 still possible without control. But the world has changed and 10 years later there are again border controls to control the influx of war refugees.
