The castle is still privately owned today, but is leased to the municipality of Brüggen. Since 1979 it has been running a regional hunting and natural history museum in the former hall and south-west tower, in which local, partly extinct animal species and weapons from the Stone Age to the 19th century can be seen. Since May 2000, Brüggen's tourist information center has also been there, and since 2002 visitors have also been able to find out more about the Maas-Schwalm-Nette nature park there.

In addition, the buildings and the castle area regularly serve as a location for cultural events such as concerts, theater performances and art exhibitions. Civil weddings have also been possible in the castle hall since mid-2009.

The nutria, which predominantly live in and around water, make it difficult for the common.

A sculpture by the sculptor Uwe Meints lies in the shadow of Brüggen Castle. The stone lady is called Freya.

The stone lady, who rests on the meadow to the right behind the castle gate in Brüggen, is a bit fuller. Most recently, the unnamed sculpture created by the Brüggen sculptor Uwe Meints was shown in an exhibition in Berlin. Now she has a name: Freya. The name is the result of a competition: a competition was held together with the employees of the Elbers real estate agency. Some submissions were more of a fun nature, such as "The Loreley von der Schwalm". Reiner Schüttler, who suggested "Freya", won. His prize: a clay raven created by Meints for the garden.

The stone lady was made from Belgian limestone. For the time being, it rests on wooden plinths that stand in the meadow. "Petit Granit" is typical for the region, the sculptor explained at the "baptism" of the sculpture. Window sills are often built from this material.

Meints worked on the reclining lady for a year. An acquaintance of his was (or better: was) a model for him. "The figure is based on 98 percent of the original," says the artist.
