Also known as the “Spring of Saint Ilse”, the Ilsequelle was one of the most famous healing springs in Central Europe in the Middle Ages. The 30 Years' War and a plague epidemic caused the spring to be temporarily forgotten - but over the course of history, people have repeatedly made pilgrimages to this healing spring to drink its refreshing water, bathe in it or cure themselves of ailments. Today, the Ilsequelle is primarily a popular rest area on the Rothaarsteig - ideal for a shorter or longer break!
