A bridge crossing over the Westoder was built in the Middle Ages around 1306 to connect the cities of Greiffenhagen and Penkun. This was destroyed by the Swedes in 1640 during the Thirty Years' War. In 1857 a new wooden yoke bridge was built. The forerunner of today's Oder Bridge is a 120 m long steel bridge built between 1911 and 1913 for the construction of a road from Greifenhagen over the Westoder to Mescherin. The bridge was destroyed in the war in 1945 and rebuilt as a border bridge to Poland after 1960.
