Road Cycling Highlight
The tower of the 'Bels Lijntje' project was not built over the cycle path as initially requested; but in the verge next to the bike path. In this way, the tower does not hinder fire engines or work equipment, nor does it influence the flow of bicycle traffic on the Bels Lijntje. By building the tower on the roadside, we were also able to create a viewing platform at the level of the cycle path on the Kleine Klotteraard close to the water. The slanting arrangement of the tower is inspired by the axis of the Kleine Klotteraard, and that axis is also not perpendicular to the Bels Lijntje. The base of the tower, the ground floor is a large platform for observation of the Kleine Klotteraard close to the water, and especially accessible for older and less mobile people, wheelchair users, etc.The first floor is a closed volume, which offers the possibility to place educational and informational facilities and/or can serve as a lockable storage space. The tower is fairly closed, but with deliberately placed openings for local views. When climbing the previously closed tower, the surprise effect is all the greater when you enter the viewing platforms. There is an intermediate platform at +/- 8.5 meters with a view of Kleine Klotteraard, the upper platform at +/- 11 meters offers an even wider view of the Kleine Klotteraard, also a view of the Zwart Water and a large part of the Bels line; that runs diagonally under your feet like a dead straight line.
