St. Mary's Cathedral (New Cathedral), Linz
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Linz is a neo-Gothic, Roman Catholic church building, which is also called St. Mary's Cathedral and New Cathedral. The building was commissioned in 1855 by the Bishop of Linz, Franz Joseph Rudigier, in gratitude for the bull Ineffabilis Deus of December 8, 1854.
The foundation stone was laid in 1862, and on May 1, 1924, the cathedral was finally consecrated as St. Mary's Church by Bishop Johannes Maria Gföllner. The building was not completed until 1935, and the cathedral square was redesigned as part of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Diocese of Linz. The cathedral is the largest church in Austria and is around two meters lower than St. Stephen's Cathedral.

Against the impressive backdrop of St. Mary's Cathedral, "Advent at the Cathedral" invites you to get in the mood for Christmas. Sustainability, high-quality culinary offerings and genuine handicrafts are intended to take visitors away from the hectic pre-Christmas routine. Here they can experience "the quieter Advent". Delicious dishes are prepared, from vegetarian to oriental or Innviertel-style. Punch and mulled wine are also not to be missed.

At the market stalls, regional artisans offer beautiful, special and unusual items. Other highlights include a carousel made of found objects, craft demonstrations, musical offerings and various workshops.
