Those who hike here stroll through steep lava walls that tower up to the treetops to the right and left of the Alfbach. This magical place is part of the longest lava flow in the Eifel.

The breakthrough valley of the Alfbach near Strohn is called Strohner Schweiz because of the steep slopes and wildly romantic landscape.

12,000 years ago the old Strohner lava flow blocked the riverbed, but the Alf ate its way back into its old bed. The power of the water can inevitably be felt and recognized here. The riverbed makes its way south-east of Strohn through partly steep and deep cliffs to the Sprinker Maar. It is littered with lava and basalt chunks that come from the Strohn lava flow and from the Wartgesberg. On the river slopes are the two Strohner mills, which are no longer in operation today.

The Unger family has actually said everything important about Strohner Switzerland. It is advisable to also look at this idyll from the lava bomb of Strohn. The path is narrow in parts, but easy to walk on - a small bridge leads over the Alfbach.
