The gray stone Bastion, located on the slopes of Monte Rocchetta, is one of the symbols of Riva del Garda. The Venetian tower was built between 1507 and 1508 to guard the border with the Episcopal Principality of Trento and ensure greater security for the underlying village and its inhabitants. It was destroyed in 1703 by French troops led by General Vendome who undermined the central body.
Over the centuries, the Bastion has lost its original function but, thanks to recent restorations, it has retained its severe charm. Those who visit it can admire the massive external structure and what remains of the interior. No less interesting is the view of the city below and the magnificent panorama of Upper Garda. It can be reached without difficulty via a pavement that climbs up through the vegetation. From 2020 a brand new panoramic lift connects the historic center of Riva del Garda (starting from Via Monte Oro) to the terrace of the restaurant & lounge bar in just 3 minutes.

The bastion is one of the symbols of Riva. No matter how you climb it, by MTB or on foot, it offers a beautiful view of the port of Riva.
The area around Bastione is also good for trail running 🏃

Great view from the old bastion, but also very nice trails to walk. Sure-footedness and good shoes can not hurt. ;-)
