Crypt number 24 is part of the Corridor of Memories, a complex of above-ground crypts on the west side of the Westwood Village Memorial Cemetery and holds the final resting place for Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962, born Norma Jean Baker).

Her ex-husband Joe DiMaggio had red roses delivered to her simple grave three times a week for 20 years after her death. Right next to her tomb lies the founder of Playboy, Hugh Hefner. Annually on June 1 (her birthday) and August 5 (the date of her death), memorial services are held.

Hefner and Monroe are in neighboring tombs, for which he paid $75,000 in 1992. Their careers were closely linked: The first issue of Playboy was published in 1953 featuring Marilyn Monroe in a nude calendar shoot; it sold over 50,000 copies. "Spending eternity next to Marilyn is an opportunity too sweet to pass up," Hefner had told the Los Angeles Times in 2009.
