The nine locks of Fonseranes are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This impressive structure originated in the 17th century, though several technical innovations and structural improvements have been implemented since then. The locks overcome a total elevation difference of 13.6 meters on the Canal du Midi, which connects the Mediterranean Sea to the city of Toulouse and continues from there via the Canal latéral à la Garonne to the Atlantic Ocean. A complete lock passage takes boats approximately 45 minutes.
