Helmut Hoelzer developed the so-called "mixing device", the first autonomous on-board computer for controlling a missile, as well as an electronic analogue computer for the simulation of trajectories in the Peenemünde research institutes. After the bombing of Peenemünde by the Royal Air Force in August 1943, the department Hoelzers was moved under the disguise "Karl Hagen III" in the castle Pudagla. The analogue computer was in the local castle cellar until the beginning of 1945. Hoelzer himself was quartered in the Forsthaus Neu Pudagla. The analogue computer was brought to the USA in 1946. Hoelzer also moved to the United States after the war and supported the rocket research Wernher von Braun in Fort Bliss and White Sands. He became Director of Computing at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama in 1960.
